Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of
Vietnam in the Russian Federation
Nguyen Thanh Son
Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Son was born in 1957 in Hanoi. He has many years in the diplomatic service. He knowledgeable about the country, culture and people of the Russian Federation and other countries of the Commonwealth of concurrent independent states (CIS).
He is married and has two children.
Graduated from University of Pedagogy Industry Ulan-Ude - the former Soviet Union.
Dr. Linguistics Association of Russian universities.
Management training at the Institute of Politics - National Administration of Ho Chi Minh.
Fluent in Russian, English and French.
July 16, 2014, he was President Truong Tan Sang appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in the Russian Federation, concurrently Republic of Armenia, Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Turkmenistan.
Previously, he was Deputy Secretary of State, Chairman of the Vietnam Committee for Overseas, chairman of the National Committee for UNESCO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs from September 2008.
Before entering the diplomatic service, Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Son worked at the Department of Journalism, and International Cooperation Department, Ministry of Culture from 1982 to 1989 year. After the end of his term of office as Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of Vietnam in the USSR from 1989 to 1992, he was appointed Assistant Director, International Cooperation Department, Ministry of Culture and Information.
Since 1994, he was transferred to work at the Protocol Department (now the Department of State Protocol), Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the post of head, after the Deputy Director. By 1999, he was appointed Counsellor, Embassy of Vietnam in the Russian Federation. After returning in 2003, he continued working in the Protocol Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in his capacity as Deputy Director, the Director and the right to the Protocol Department.
From October 2005 to December 2007, he was appointed director of the Department of Organization and Personnel, and the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs. December 2007, he was appointed Assistant Secretary, Acting Chairman and Chairman of the Vietnam Committee for Overseas, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
With a positive contribution in the process of work, Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Son has received many honorable titles such as the Friendship Medal of the Lao PDR; Labor Medal first class and second class; many merit of the Prime Minister; many of merit and a medal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other ministries; Career medal on the Foreign Ministry's Consular Russian Federation.
